PKK Congress Paves New Paths Amidst Calls for Peace
The outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) held a significant congress in northern Iraq and made essential decisions following a call for dissolution by its leader, Abdullah Ocalan. Despite its leaders' request, the PKK has not explicitly announced plans to disband or disarm, with more updates promised soon.

The Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), an outlawed organization, convened a congress this week. Historic decisions were made in response to a call from its leader to dissolve, according to the group's related news agency.
Firat news reported on a statement from the PKK after the May 5-7 meeting in northern Iraq. However, it remains unclear whether the group plans to disband or disarm. Leader Abdullah Ocalan, serving a life sentence, urged peace revival efforts earlier this year.
The conflict has claimed over 40,000 lives, with sporadic peace negotiations over decades, including a temporary ceasefire from 2013 to 2015. More information is expected to be released publicly soon.
