The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday strongly criticized online trolls targeting Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, calling out the ruling BJP government for remaining silent on the issue. The CPI(M) shared a post on X, showcasing a report about the online harassment Misri and his daughter are enduring.
In a dramatic statement, Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas, representing the CPI(M), praised Misri as one of India's finest officers. He expressed disappointment at the torrent of hate directed towards Misri, who merely executed government-assigned duties, urging that dissatisfaction should be directed at leaders with hawkish postures.
Similarly, the Communist Party of India accused trolls of undermining national unity, criticizing the government for failing to protect Misri. The backlash stems from his remarks defending India's unity against communal divisions, amidst the recent India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement, a decision supported by political figures, former bureaucrats, and defense veterans.
