Opposition parties in Punjab have strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over a recent hooch tragedy in Amritsar that claimed 17 lives. The tragedy has sparked debates about the effectiveness of the state's ongoing anti-drug drive, 'Yudh Nashain Virudh'.
Following the deaths caused by allegedly consuming spurious liquor, police reported that seven accused were arrested, while six individuals remain hospitalized. Senior leaders from various parties, including Congress and BJP, have demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Excise Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
The incident marks another grim chapter following similar tragedies in recent years. Opposition leaders continue to accuse the state administration of governance failings, pointing to a systemic inability to control the alleged liquor mafia.
