Iran executed three prisoners on accusations of espionage for Israel, the state-run IRNA news agency reported on Wednesday. The latest hangings took place in Urmia Prison, located in Iran's northwest province of West Azerbaijan, intensifying the ongoing struggle with Israel.
According to IRNA, the judiciary charged the individuals with attempting to smuggle 'assassination equipment' into the country. These executions are part of a series linked to Iran's conflict with Israel, fueling fears of further hangings, particularly after the government set a deadline for individuals to confess to spying.
While Iran identified the executed as Azad Shojaei, Edris Aali, and Iraqi national Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul, Amnesty International had previously warned about their potential execution. Citizens are slowly resuming daily activities under the fragile ceasefire with Israel, brokered by President Trump, despite the earlier intense airstrikes on Tehran.
