Dalai Lama's Succession: Spiritual Legacy Amid Chinese Tensions

The Dalai Lama is set to address a major gathering of Buddhist religious figures as he approaches his 90th birthday, focusing on his succession plans. His followers are keen to hear about his future steps, particularly as tensions with China over succession intensify.

China views the Dalai Lama as a separatist and insists on appointing his successor, but the Dalai Lama has countered by declaring his reincarnation will take place outside of China. Tibetan Buddhists believe enlightened monks are reborn to continue their spiritual legacy.

Deputy speaker of the Tibetan parliament-in-exile, Dolma Tsering Teykhang, underscores the need for the world to listen to the Dalai Lama amid China's attempts to control Tibetan spiritual succession for political purposes. The conference, the first since 2019, will also feature attendance from actor Richard Gere and Indian officials.
