An uproar erupted in Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga district following the alleged custodial death of a temple security guard, Ajith Kumar. AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan claimed this marks the 25th custodial murder under the DMK government, accusing the police of brutality and evidence tampering.
Kumar, detained for questioning over a theft at the Madapuram Kaliamman temple, reportedly succumbed to police torture. His family and AIADMK leaders, including General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, have demanded a judicial inquiry and justice, condemning the ruling DMK for inaction on similar prior cases.
The district Superintendent of Police announced the suspension of six crime branch officers involved in Kumar's questioning. Protests continue as relatives refuse to accept Kumar's body, seeking accountability and compensation for the bereaved family.
