Outcry and Investigation: BJP Demands Justice in Kolkata Law College Gangrape Case

In the wake of the alleged gangrape of a law student at South Calcutta Law College on June 25, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari of the BJP, has vowed to 'fight until the perpetrators are brought to book.' The commitment comes after Adhikari met with a four-member fact-finding team set up by the BJP.

The team, comprising former Union Ministers Satpal Singh and Meenakshi Lekhi, along with Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb, arrived in Kolkata on Monday to assess the ongoing investigation and engage with senior police officials.

'We intend to expose the truth and secure justice for the victim,' Adhikari stated after meeting the team. He accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's administration of a breakdown in law and order, asserting that crimes against women had become a disturbing pattern in the state.

Addressing a press conference, Satpal Singh stressed that the team aims to not only expedite the investigation but also send a powerful message of solidarity with the women of West Bengal. Both Singh and Lekhi criticized the Trinamool Congress for its silence on these issues.

Mishra accused the state's government and police of complicity, claiming connections between the accused and the ruling party. Deb echoed this sentiment, urging CM Banerjee to address the failures in protecting women and questioning why a person with a criminal record was admitted to a law college.
