Kharge Criticizes Digital India: Unfulfilled Promises and Rising Debts

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has launched a scathing critique of the government's Digital India initiative, labeling it as a series of unfulfilled promises and financial burdens. Kharge questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's oversight, urging reflection on what he described as multiple failures and frauds within the initiative.

Kharge cited the BharatNet project's slow progress, revealing that only 65% of the targeted villages have broadband access. He highlighted that BSNL lags in 4G deployment despite substantial financial support from government packages. Additionally, he raised concerns about the significant digital skills gap in the population, suggesting that private sectors have outpaced public efforts.

Pointing to cybersecurity, Kharge noted a substantial rise in cyber incidents, arguing that government efforts have been insufficient. He also mentioned that recent policies have weakened privacy and transparency. Kharge concluded by emphasizing the groundwork laid by previous administrations for digital advancements, contrasting them with the current government's approach.
