Marathi Identity Triumphs: Controversial Gujarati Plaque Removed in Navi Mumbai

In a demonstration of linguistic pride, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and several political parties successfully campaigned for the removal of a controversial Gujarati plaque at the office of a BJP MLA in Navi Mumbai. The incident took place under police supervision, reflecting tensions over regional identity in the area.

Workers from multiple political factions, including the MNS, staged a protest march demanding the plaque's removal, claiming it was an affront to Marathi integrity. Following a meeting with police at the NRI Sagari station led by MNS Navi Mumbai City Secretary Sachin Kadam, authorities agreed to take down the plaque.

Subsequently, MNS leaders, along with police presence, oversaw the removal of the plaque, which was replaced with a Marathi one. An apology was issued to Marathi citizens, promising the swift installation of a board in their language, reinforcing linguistic and cultural sentiments.
