Mamata Banerjee Accuses BJP of Voter List Manipulation in Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday intensified her criticism of the BJP and Election Commission, accusing them of orchestrating a conspiracy to systematically remove registered voters—particularly minorities and migrants—from the state's electoral lists ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.

Addressing the Trinamool Congress' annual Martyrs' Day rally, Banerjee emphasized that the "real battle" in 2026 would center around the voter list rather than just the electoral outcome itself, urging her party members to stay vigilant against what she termed a "silent purge" targeting Bengali-speaking voters.

Alleging that similar tactics had been employed in Bihar and Maharashtra, Banerjee cautioned that Bengal would resist any attempts to replicate such "tampering" with the voter lists, condemning the BJP for allegedly fabricating statistics to sway electoral outcomes.
