The Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, has officially resigned from his position due to health reasons. The announcement came from the Ministry of Home Affairs through a notification, stating the resignation is effective immediately under Article 67(A) of the Constitution.
The notification was shared with the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday by Ghanshyam Tiwari, who was presiding over the House at the time. Dhankhar had communicated his decision to President Droupadi Murmu, emphasizing a need to prioritize his healthcare on medical advice.
At 74, Dhankhar had taken office in August 2022 and served as the ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Deputy Chairman Harivansh mentioned that further Constitutional procedures regarding the Vice Presidential vacancy will be shared once received.
