The ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar has ignited political tensions, with Union Minister Chirag Paswan staunchly defending the government's stance. He emphasized the government's readiness to address any concerns and urged the Opposition to engage constructively in parliamentary debates, rather than obstruct proceedings.
Paswan accused the Opposition of deliberately spreading misinformation to suit political narratives, highlighting past electoral complaints like vote duplicacy. Echoing Paswan's sentiments, Union Minister Giriraj Singh said the revision process is a constitutional mandate predating the current administration. Singh criticized the opposition for attempting to politicize the issue.
The exercise has fueled political controversy, leading to repeated disruptions in Parliament. Opposition parties, concerned about transparency and potential voter exclusion, have submitted motions seeking discussion. Notices for adjournment motions were filed in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, forcing adjournments until July 23.
