Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has launched a scathing attack on the central government, accusing it of undermining the Mahadayi project that is vital for the water needs of North Karnataka residents. In a social media post, he criticized the BJP-led government's alleged non-cooperation, describing it as a betrayal of the state's interests.

The ongoing dispute over the river, which originates in Karnataka and flows through Goa, has seen Goa's Chief Minister Pramod Sawant emphasize its importance to Goa, stating it is their lifeline. Siddaramaiah has been vocal in his demand for Karnataka's allocated 13.42 TMC water, as per the 2018 tribunal verdict.

Amidst the escalating tensions, Karnataka plans to divert water to aid the Malaprabha valley's Kalasa-Banduri project. However, Goa's opposition to this plan has led to a longstanding conflict, with political leaders in both states amplifying their rhetoric as the dispute continues to wade through legal channels.
