In a fresh political confrontation, BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar responded sharply to remarks made by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the Bengali language's importance. Sarkar underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dedication to the promotion of Bengali, while levying accusations against Rohingya Muslims from Bangladesh, claiming they have altered their names to secure Indian identity documents.

Sarkar pointed to the Supreme Court's stance on measures taken by the Election Commission to ensure unbiased elections. Reacting to Banerjee's previous statements, he underscored her emphasis on the significance of native languages, starting with children's initial utterance of "Maa," and condemned perceived discrimination against Bengali speakers. Banerjee urged for a renewed Bhasha Andolan to combat the alleged mistreatment of the Bengali-speaking populace.

Furthermore, Mamata Banerjee has sharply criticized the Election Commission for allegedly removing 40 lakh voters from Bihar's list, with similar intentions for West Bengal. She vowed resistance, promising a movement to counter any such actions and uphold the dignity and rights of Bengali speakers, asserting potential legal and on-ground challenges.
