The People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) has taken decisive steps to bolster its presence in the state Assembly by naming Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng as its new Legislature Party leader. This move, announced during a recent meeting chaired by PPA president Nabam Vivek, is seen as part of a broader strategy to strengthen leadership within the party.

Alongside Tayeng's appointment, the party has designated Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering as the deputy Legislature Party leader and Liromoba MLA Pesi Jilen as the chief whip. PPA President Nabam Vivek stated the importance of filling various functionary posts to ensure robust organizational levels.

The PPA initially held two seats following the April 19 Assembly elections but has since expanded its representation to six seats, thanks to defections from four former National People's Party MLAs. This development places PPA in a stronger position within the 60-member Arunachal Pradesh Assembly, where the BJP remains the dominant force with 46 seats.
