The political landscape experienced a stir when TMC MLA Sabitri Mitra's remarks on the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir sparked controversy. Mitra stated that terrorists typically do not target tourists, a comment soon making waves on social media platforms.

Following the remarks, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swiftly criticized Mitra, alleging she was defending terrorism. Amit Malviya, head of the BJP IT Cell, accused her of shifting blame from perpetrators, causing national outrage. The Congress party also condemned her statements, labeling them as anti-national.

In defense, Mitra clarified that her intention was to emphasize the need for a deeper investigation into the real perpetrators behind the attack. She insisted that her comments were misconstrued and that her primary concern was national security.
