In a scathing critique, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra highlighted severe security failures during the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, attributing the tragic deaths of 26 tourists to governmental oversight. Speaking at a Lok Sabha debate, Gandhi emphasized the absence of security personnel when tourists became targets of terrorists, quoting a bereaved widow who witnessed the horror.
Gandhi questioned the government's accountability, asking who was responsible for the security breach. She pointed out discrepancies between previous assurances of safety by officials and the actual security arrangements. Despite Union Home Minister's recent visit to review the security situation, Gandhi criticized the lack of preparedness and accountability.
Further, she took aim at Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who admitted responsibility for the security lapse but faced no further questioning. Gandhi also drew parallels between TRF's 25 terror attacks since 2020 and those during the UPA era, challenging the current administration's effectiveness in managing terrorism threats. DMK MP Kanimozhi joined the chorus, accusing the government of shifting focus from contemporary issues by invoking past operations.
