Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, has strongly criticized Home Minister Amit Shah, branding the April 22 Pahalgam attack as an 'intelligence failure.' During a debate on Operation Sindoor in the Upper House, Kharge questioned the government's accountability, claiming intelligence lapses have been a recurring issue since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power.

Kharge drew attention to a series of significant security breaches, including the Uri and Pathankot attacks in 2016, the Pulwama attack in 2019, and the recent Pahalgam incident in 2025, to underline what he perceived as a repetitive failing of national security measures. He pressed Home Minister Shah to take responsibility and challenged the actions or inactions of the government in addressing these security oversights.

The Congress President further criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his absence during parliamentary sessions, highlighting his visit to Bihar for election campaigning as a display of misplaced priorities. Kharge's remarks extended to his disappointment over a lack of response to requests for a special parliamentary session, accusing Modi of arrogance that could eventually lead to a political downfall.
