In a diplomatic confrontation, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Tuesday formally reprimanded the ambassador of the Netherlands, responding to Dutch criticism over the treatment of Palestinians.

Saar accused the Dutch government of turning a long-standing friendship with Israel into open hostility, citing political interests as the motive.

The Dutch caretaker government announced plans to summon Israel's ambassador following what it called an 'unbearable and indefensible' situation in Gaza, and imposed travel bans on Israeli ministers accused of incitement against Palestinians.
