The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has announced a strategic overhaul by appointing a 387-member committee under the leadership of Harshwardhan Sapkal, who became state unit chief five months ago. This move is intended to revitalize the party's presence and functionality across the state.
The newly formed body features a 36-member political affairs committee, further complemented by 16 senior vice presidents and 38 vice presidents. Dheeraj Deshmukh, son of former chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, has been appointed a senior spokesperson, marking his first such role.
Renowned political figures, including former chief ministers Sushilkumar Shinde and Prithviraj Chavan, along with other senior leaders, have been incorporated. Reflecting an inclusive approach, 40% of the appointees are from OBC backgrounds with representation for Muslim, Adivasi, and Dalit communities.
