In a passionate appeal, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday called on the central government to waive loans for flood and landslide victims in her parliamentary constituency of Wayanad.

Speaking during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Vadra expressed concern over the lack of sufficient central assistance following last year's catastrophic landslides and floods that claimed numerous lives and destroyed over 1,600 buildings in the Kerala district.

Vadra criticized the issuance of insufficient funds as loans to the affected, questioning how families expected to rebuild after such devastation can be made to repay. She urged the Centre to declare the disaster a national tragedy, emphasizing that the requested financial relief is a minor sum for the government.
