Moldova on High Alert: Alleged Russian Interference in Election
Moldovan President Maia Sandu accuses Russia of planning unprecedented interference in the upcoming parliamentary election. The election could see Sandu's pro-EU party lose its majority amid claims of electoral corruption and illegal financing from Russia. Moscow denies all allegations, while tensions between the nations escalate.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has identified alleged electoral corruption and external financing from Russia as major threats to the upcoming parliamentary election scheduled for September 28. Sandu's remarks were made during a press conference in Chisinau, where she accused the Kremlin of plotting unprecedented interference.
The election holds significant consequences for Sandu's Party of Action and Solidarity, which currently holds a majority in Moldova's parliament. Sandu claimed Russia aims to exert control over the former Soviet state, situated between Ukraine and Romania, through electoral meddling. However, the Kremlin refuted these accusations.
Russia's alleged interference tactics include voter bribery, cyberattacks, and paid protests, with accusations of financing through cryptocurrencies amounting to approximately 100 million euros. Despite the lack of evidence provided by Sandu, the allegations exemplify the rising tensions between Moldova's European integration ambitions and its historical ties with Russia.
