Prime Minister Narendra Modi faced criticism from the Congress after US President Donald Trump imposed a 25% tariff on Indian imports. The opposition argued that despite Modi's diplomatic efforts, including hosting 'Howdy Modi,' India's trade relationship with the US has not improved.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh pointed out that India had hoped for favorable treatment by the US under Trump, but a series of incidents have shown otherwise. He urged Modi to draw inspiration from Indira Gandhi's firm stance against US pressures.
Other Congress leaders like MP Mallu Ravi and Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy also expressed concerns, emphasizing the need for renegotiating trade deals to protect India's economy from negative impacts.
