Congress Loses Sole MLA in Meghalaya as Ronnie V Lyngdoh Joins National People's Party

In a significant political shift, Ronnie V Lyngdoh, the lone Congress MLA from Mylliem, has officially joined the National People's Party. Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma validated the merger. This realignment leaves Congress without representation in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. Lyngdoh also withdrew a high-profile PIL from the High Court.

In a pivotal development for Meghalaya's political landscape, the Congress party's presence in the state's legislative assembly has been completely erased as their sole representative, MLA Ronnie V Lyngdoh, officially merged with the National People's Party (NPP) on Wednesday.

Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, Thomas A Sangma, confirmed the acceptance of the merger letter, submitted by Lyngdoh. "After thorough examination, the merger complies with the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution," he stated, highlighting the legal adherence in recognizing Lyngdoh's switch to NPP.

Furthermore, Lyngdoh, who also served as the Opposition Chief Whip, withdrew a Public Interest Litigation against three legislators under the anti-defection law. With Congress now unrepresented, questions arise about the party's future strategy within the state.
