Preparations for elections to Bengaluru's five newly established city corporations are rapidly progressing, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced on Wednesday. The development follows the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024, which aims to enhance city management and operational efficiency.
At a meeting with Bengaluru's party leaders, Shivakumar revealed that discussions with local MLAs led to the decision to form distinct city corporations. This move comes after a meeting of the Greater Bengaluru Authority officers, with a detailed affidavit to be submitted to the Supreme Court soon regarding the electoral process.
As mandated by the Supreme Court, the state government aims to complete essential election preparations, such as ward reallocation and voter list updates, by December 1. This preparation comes under the new governance act, which introduces a new organizational framework for managing the Bengaluru metropolitan region.
