On Thursday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged that the Congress had orchestrated the 'Hindu terror' narrative during its time in power to counter Narendra Modi and appeal to the Muslim electorate. This accusation comes amidst the BJP's celebration of the acquittal of seven individuals implicated in the Malegaon blast case.
BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad called for apologies and compensation for former BJP MP Pragya Thakur and Lt Colonel Prasad Purohit, who were among those acquitted. Prasad criticized the Congress, claiming they manipulated evidence and employed torture in an effort to frame them, describing the case as a 'well-planned conspiracy' for political gains.
Prasad further condemned Rahul Gandhi's earlier statements, which suggested extremist Hindu groups posed a significant threat, referencing a decade-old remark to a US ambassador revealed by Wikileaks. Prasad urged Sonia and Rahul Gandhi to apologize to the nation, pointing out the lack of substantial evidence against the accused in multiple high-profile cases.
