All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi expressed dissatisfaction with the acquittal of seven individuals in the 2008 Malegaon blast case by a Mumbai Special NIA court. The verdict, delivered on Thursday, was labeled 'disappointing' by Owaisi, who questioned whether the Maharashtra government would challenge the decision, as was done for the 2006 Mumbai blasts.
Owaisi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government for allowing a terror accused to serve as a Member of Parliament, demanding accountability for what he described as a 'faulty investigation'. In a post on social media platform X, he pointed fingers at inadequate investigative efforts by authorities and questioned whether instructions were given to prosecutor Rohini Salian to be lenient with the accused.
The special NIA court acquitted all seven accused due to insufficient evidence, yet ordered compensation for victims' families. Asaduddin Owaisi questioned the role of political parties in seeking justice and accountability for the victims, emphasizing the need for responsible governance from the current administration.
