The recent acquittal of seven individuals, including former BJP MP Sadhvi Pragya and Lt Colonel Prasad Purohit, in the Malegaon blast case has been welcomed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Lal. A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court delivered the verdict, dismissing the allegations against the accused due to insufficient evidence.
BJP leaders have leveraged the verdict to criticize the Congress, accusing it of fabricating the 'Bhagwa terror' narrative. Brij Lal demanded an apology from Congress leaders, including Sonia, Rahul, and Priyanka Gandhi, for what he termed a 'betrayal' of the nation. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reiterated that saffron was never associated with terrorism.
Deputy CM Eknath Shinde also expressed support for the verdict, emphasizing the long-standing position of the Shiv Sena against the accusations. Meanwhile, legal recourse remains possible as the victims' families plan to challenge the acquittal in the High Court, maintaining the ongoing complexities of this case.
