Ukraine's parliament took a significant step on Thursday by voting to restore the autonomy of two essential anti-corruption agencies. This action was moved to resolve the country's most severe political crisis since the Russian invasion, driven by strong pressure from both domestic protesters and high-ranking European officials.
Lawmakers showed unanimous support with a 331-0 vote in favor of the bill. The legislation was submitted last week by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who responded to the calls for accountability and transparency from thousands of Ukrainian citizens demanding change.
The legislation is now headed to President Zelenskiy for his signature, marking a pivotal moment in Ukraine's ongoing battle against corruption and its efforts to align more closely with European standards.
