In a late-night reshuffle of the Maharashtra cabinet, Manikrao Kokate's transition from the agriculture portfolio to overseeing sports and youth welfare was announced on Thursday.
The current sports minister, Dattatrey Bharne, will take on the role of agriculture minister, according to a statement from the General Administration Department.
The changes are significant for the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), with Kokate under social media scrutiny after a controversial video and previous comments on farmers.
