In a bid to counter alleged electoral manipulation, the Congress party announced plans for a large-scale protest against the Karnataka Election Commission on August 5. The protest will be spearheaded by former party chief Rahul Gandhi, highlighting significant concerns about the integrity of voter rolls in the state.
K C Venugopal, Congress general secretary in-charge of the organization, accused the Election Commission of engaging in deliberate voter roll rigging. He cited issues such as fake entries, deleted names, and blatant manipulation within the voter list, suggesting these are not mere clerical errors but calculated attempts to undermine democracy.
Preparations for the protest, which will also feature prominent leaders like Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, were reviewed in Bengaluru. The Congress party is adamant about addressing these alleged malpractices and vows that the fight to preserve voting integrity has only just started.
