The Congress party of India has voiced strong criticism against former U.S. President Donald Trump, accusing him of undermining significant global institutions like the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Jairam Ramesh, Congress' general secretary, stated that Trump's actions are damaging to the multilateral trading system, leading to unilateral decisions. The tariffs on Indian exports, set to begin on August 7, have intensified these concerns.

The Congress asserts that India has high stakes in international accords and institutions, and cannot afford to stay silent as Trump imposes new trade barriers, including a 25% tariff on Indian exports and penalties related to India's trade with Russia.
