The recent acquittal of all accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case has ignited controversy, marked by startling claims from retired Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad officer, Mehboob Mujawar. Mujawar alleges he was instructed by higher authorities to arrest Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat. Opposing these orders led to his alleged imprisonment and public defamation.

Mujawar's statements come after the verdict by the Mumbai Special National Investigation Agency Court that cleared all seven individuals charged in the blasts. In the aftermath, political ripples spread nationwide, with BJP leaders demanding apologies from Congress, accusing them of fostering the 'saffron terror' narrative. Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad criticized Congress leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi for allegedly prioritizing electoral gains over truth.

The blast, which took place on September 29, 2008, near a mosque in Malegaon, resulted in six deaths and 95 injuries. Originally, 11 individuals were charged but only seven faced trial. Despite the acquittal, the victims' families plan to challenge the ruling in higher courts. Meanwhile, political parties continue to express divergent views, amplifying the already tense atmosphere.
