In a critical evaluation of the modern media environment, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has expressed concern over political parties launching their own media outlets to further self-interests, something he believes is detrimental to genuine journalism. He shared these views at the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Telugu daily, 'Nava Telangana'.
Revanth Reddy spoke about the past when newspapers owned by political parties served as a medium to disseminate political ideologies. However, he contends that the current situation has devolved, with some party-owned media allegedly protecting party irregularities and attacking dissenters. He emphasized the importance of journalists distinguishing themselves from politically-affiliated media personnel.
Furthermore, Reddy highlighted the complicated landscape where some individuals claiming to be social media journalists lack basic journalistic understanding. He advocated for seminars to define genuine journalism. Praising the historic role of Communists in Andhra Pradesh, he likened their societal role to essential 'salt', pivotal in stirring dialogues and challenging power structures.
