Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chairman of the separatist Hurriyat Conference, has issued an emotive appeal to the Indian government, urging it to bridge the 'dil ki doori' or gap between hearts with the people of Jammu and Kashmir by engaging in meaningful dialogue.
Speaking to a Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid, the Mirwaiz welcomed the unified response from three Jammu and Kashmir Members of Parliament during a contentious parliamentary debate about the India-Pakistan conflict following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
The Mirwaiz emphasized the importance of addressing the human cost of conflict and highlighted the MPs' expressions of concern as aligning with the separatist movement's long-held stance. Analysts perceive his statement as a conciliatory gesture amid rising tensions and recent bans on moderate Hurriyat members.
