Mizoram Congress president Lal Thanzara has criticized Chief Minister Lalduhoma and two MPs for their silence on a controversial arrest. Two Catholic nuns from Kerala, Sister Vandana Francis and Sister Preethy Mary, along with Sukhman Mandavi, were detained in Chhattisgarh on charges of forced conversion.

Addressing a political session in Aizawl, Thanzara lamented what he described as the 'arbitrary' nature of the arrests. Prominent Congress figures, including K C Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi, have expressed their protest and support for the nuns, highlighting the need for vocal opposition from the leaders of the Christian-majority state.

Thanzara further censured state BJP president K Beichhua for his reticence and demanded a response in his dual role as both a political and religious leader. He also called for the immediate release of the detained nuns, condemning the discrimination faced by the Christian community.
