U.S. President Donald Trump extended an invitation on Friday to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for discussions on tariffs and bilateral issues. Speaking from the White House, Trump expressed his admiration for the Brazilian people despite criticizing Brazil's current leaders.

In response, Brazil's Finance Minister Fernando Haddad welcomed the gesture, confirming Lula's openness to dialogue. Lula, however, did not directly address Trump's comments. Meanwhile, Trump imposed a 50% tariff on Brazil amidst ongoing legal proceedings against former President Jair Bolsonaro.

The U.S. further sanctioned a Brazilian Supreme Court justice involved in the trial, moves that Lula condemned as unwarranted interference. Haddad suggested a pathway for a future meeting between Lula and Trump, contingent on thorough preparations.
