In a sharp criticism, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari lambasted the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the BJP following the release of a draft voter list for Bihar, reportedly omitting 65 lakh names. This contentious action has drawn allegations of targetting minority-dense districts with alleged political motivations.
Tiwari echoed remarks from fellow Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, insinuating a BJP influence over the ECI's decision-making process. He emphasized the significance of the figures, stating, "Imagine what 65 lakh means," reflecting the party's concern over the disenfranchisement of minorities, backward classes, and Dalits.
The ECI, while unveiling the draft list which includes 7.24 crore electors out of Bihar's 7.89 crore population, assured a one-month period for claims and objections. The public and political entities have until September 1 to address any discrepancies in the voter list, ensuring no unjust removals occur.
