In a sharp critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Congress leader Pawan Khera condemned the government's foreign policy following the announcement by US President Donald Trump. The US has implemented a 25% tariff on Indian imports, prompting Khera to question India's growing dependency on external powers.
'It is alarming that we now seem to require America's consent for our actions,' Khera remarked, highlighting his dissatisfaction with the current foreign policy. Trump's announcement also included potential penalties for India's import of Russian oil, further complicating diplomatic relations.
Amidst these new economic measures, other neighboring countries face less harsh tariffs, with Myanmar being the exception at 40%. India's Commerce Minister, Piyush Goyal, informed Parliament of ongoing discussions with stakeholders to mitigate the impact and defend national interests.
