In a renewed call for peace and governance in Jammu and Kashmir, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) urged the central government to reconsider the 'agenda of alliance' it established in 2015 with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking at a press conference, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti criticized BJP's stringent policies, which she claims have exacerbated tensions in the region instead of resolving them.
Mufti highlighted the ineffectiveness of BJP's approach post the August 5, 2019 upheaval, where Jammu and Kashmir's special status was revoked. She emphasized the need for dialogue with Kashmir's residents, warning that the current political climate is like a brewing volcano that requires urgent attention. According to Mufti, the alliance originally envisioned power transfer, peace, and progress for J-K.
The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister argued that the roadmap detailed in the alliance document remains pertinent today and should be leveraged for resolving ongoing conflicts. She expressed hopes for humanitarian governance under Prime Minister Modi, akin to previous leaders like Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to ensure peaceful cohabitation for Jammu and Kashmir.
