In a politically charged move, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Saturday raided the Chandigarh residence of Ranjit Singh Gill, the owner of the Gillco Group, mere hours after his political allegiance shifted to the BJP. The raid has sparked accusations of political manipulation.
LG Verma, a legal advisor, condemned the Bureau's actions as part of a pattern of intimidation by the AAP against its political adversaries. Verma cited previous instances involving senior leaders like Tajinder Bagga, suggesting a systematic approach by the AAP government to exert pressure on opposition figures.
This development coincides with an ongoing anti-corruption initiative by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau. On July 23, the Bureau arrested an Assistant Sub Inspector, Jagtar Singh, for allegedly accepting a bribe at a Sangrur police station. The police official was caught red-handed by the Bureau while accepting Rs 12,000, leading to charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
