In a significant judicial verdict, former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur was acquitted in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case by a special court, emphasizing a lack of substantial evidence for her conviction. Thakur marked it as a triumph for Hindutva and repudiated the notion of 'saffron terror'.

On arriving in Bhopal, Thakur claimed that investigators had pressured her to falsely name individuals, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but she resisted. These claims were not substantiated by the court, which dismissed allegations of torture in their extensive judgement.

The acquittal of Lt Col Prasad Purohit and five others also underlines the court's conclusion of insufficient evidence to prove their involvement in the Nashik district blast that resulted in six deaths and over 100 injuries.
