Fear Amidst Uncertainty: Tragic Impact of NRC Anxiety

In a tragic turn of events, a 63-year-old man in Kolkata, identified as Dilip Kumar Saha, was discovered dead by suicide on Sunday morning. His family alleges that fear of deportation linked to the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC) significantly contributed to his mental distress.

Initial investigations reveal that Saha, who arrived in Kolkata in 1972 from Dhaka's Nawabganj, resided in Anandapally West within the Regent Park area. Employed as non-teaching staff at a private school in Dhakuria, Saha was reportedly apprehensive about potential deportation to Bangladesh, fearing detention and displacement, despite possessing valid identification documents.

The Power Minister and local Trinamool Congress MLA Arup Biswas, who met the bereaved family, criticized governmental policies, stating, "This reflects the perilous fear instilled by deportation threats. What they have initiated in the name of the NRC unveils an anti-people stance." Investigations into this incident are ongoing.
