In a bold accusation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma labeled Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as anti-national, aligning him only with Bangladeshi and Pakistani Muslims while neglecting Indian Hindus and Muslims. Sarma voiced these allegations during an election campaign in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
Further stirring the political pot, Sarma dismissed Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi's forthcoming visit to Assam, particularly on the grounds of underestimating the prowess of Assamese women. Sarma claimed that women in Assam's Self Help Groups far surpass Gandhi in various domains, including traditional sweets preparation and agricultural involvement.
Addressing Congress's priorities, Sarma critiqued their focus solely on Dhubri, urging recognition of the state's cultural landmarks and icons. Sarma emphasized Assamese people's lack of interest in the Congress leaders' visits, asserting that genuine support lies within local communities and icons.
