Nenel Cassy, a former senator of Haiti, has been apprehended by police on charges of conspiracy against the state and funding criminal groups. His arrest occurred in Petionville, a district known for its affluence, and was made public through a Facebook post by Haiti's National Police. They released images of Cassy handcuffed alongside heavily armed officers.

Acknowledged as a corrupt figure by the US State Department in 2023, Cassy faced accusations in February of aiding gang members in assaults on Kenscoff, an affluent area near Port-au-Prince previously unscathed by gang activities. These assaults tragically resulted in numerous casualties, including local farmers and an infant.

The United Nations reports indicate gangs control 90% of Haiti's capital, with escalating attacks aimed at territorial expansion. Last year alone, gang violence claimed over 5,600 lives, and recent conflicts have rendered over a million individuals homeless.
