Shibu Soren, the prominent tribal leader and founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), passed away on Monday at the age of 81. His death was confirmed by his son, Hemant Soren, the current Chief Minister of Jharkhand. The elder Soren's demise signals the end of a significant political chapter that elevated the tribal movement to national attention.

Soren was undergoing treatment for kidney-related ailments at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi, where he had been admitted since June 19 under the supervision of Dr. A K Bhalla. Despite comprehensive care, Soren was declared dead at 8:56 AM. He had been on life support following a stroke two months prior and died peacefully with his family beside him on August 4, 2025.

Shibu Soren's contributions to the political and social landscape are noteworthy, having led JMM for nearly four decades. Tributes poured in from various political leaders, including Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar and Congress leader Rajesh Thakur, acknowledging his pivotal role in the formation of a separate Jharkhand state and his staunch advocacy for tribal identity and rights.
