The Indian National Congress launched a scathing critique of the Modi government on Monday, accusing it of obscuring the reality of Chinese incursions and pursuing a normalization of relations with the hostile neighbor. This critique follows alleged Chinese territorial advances since the Galwan incident in 2020.
The Congress party censured the government for what it described as the biggest territorial setback since 1962, blaming the administration's economic interests and cowardice. They questioned the Prime Minister's remarks dismissing Chinese encroachments and raised concerns about India's dependency on Chinese imports and the record trade deficit.
The Supreme Court temporarily halted proceedings against Rahul Gandhi, who faced defamation charges for remarks made during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. The Congress believes the proceedings are politically motivated to distract from the government's failures. The party stressed the moral duty of citizens to question the government on national security issues.
