On Tuesday, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti vehemently labeled August 5 as a "black day" for the nation, arguing that the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status in 2019 initiated a broader assault on India's constitutional values.

The party claims that Mufti and fellow workers were barred from demonstrating against what they describe as the "unilateral and unconstitutional" abrogation of Article 370. The incident, they say, highlights growing suppression of democratic dissent in Kashmir, where protest movements face increasing police restrictions.

Addressing reporters, PDP's Iltija Mufti lamented the continued restrictions on political expression six years after the event. As protests are thwarted and voices silenced, questions arise about the state of democracy and constitutional adherence in Jammu and Kashmir.
