In a major political shake-up, Bosnia's electoral authorities have ousted separatist Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik from his role as president of the Serb entity following a court ruling. The decision comes after an appeals court upheld a verdict sentencing Dodik to one year in jail and imposing a six-year ban from political activities.
The Central Electoral Commission announced that Dodik retains the right to appeal, with plans for an early presidential election to be held 90 days post-decision. This development follows the last Bosnian Serb presidential election conducted in 2022.
Dodik's tenure as Bosnian Serb president was nullified due to legal sentencing. He has rejected the ruling, asserting he will continue his presidency with the support of the Bosnian Serb parliament and backing from Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
