West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has strongly condemned the alleged assaults on Bengali-speaking migrants, accusing the BJP of spearheading a campaign aimed at harassing Bengalis under the guise of citizenship verification and voter list modifications.
At a protest rally held in Jhargram, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief vowed to expose the BJP and the Centre's role in these alleged attacks on the Bengali language and its people. Banerjee criticized the BJP's dismissal of the Bengali language and accused them of attempting to manipulate voter lists to favor the party, suggesting a hidden agenda to introduce the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Banerjee questioned the legitimacy of BJP demands for citizens to produce documents verifying their identity, challenging the BJP leaders to provide their own birth certificates. The rally witnessed significant participation, underlining Banerjee's position as a staunch defender of Bengali pride and identity.
